Immigration Attorney and Advocate Nubia Batista Willman

Confident woman with long hair wearing a red blazer and butterfly pin.

Nubia Batista Willman believes that every family deserves the opportunity to build a safe, stable, and successful future. As a Mexican immigrant who grew up in poverty and experienced domestic violence as a child, Nubia understands the challenges faced by many in the community. She knows how hard life can be when the odds are stacked against you, but she also recognizes the importance of community advocacy and the impact of immigrant support. As a teenager, the people of the 25th Ward inspired her to envision a future filled with possibilities, guiding her path to Chicago and shaping her life’s work.

For more than 15 years, Nubia Batista Willman has been a champion for working families, immigrants, survivors of violence, and communities striving for a fair shot at opportunity. As an immigration attorney in legal aid, she stood beside families facing some of the most challenging moments of their lives, providing crucial immigrant support. In her role as a union steward, she represented coworkers, resolved workplace disputes, and fought for fair treatment and protections in the workplace. In the nonprofit sector, she worked on community advocacy, helping small businesses and community organizations access the resources they needed to grow and succeed.

Her commitment to service propelled her into civic leadership, where she led immigration policy and city-wide community engagement at Chicago City Hall. There, she expanded access to essential services, policies, and resources for Chicago families.

No matter the role, her mission remains steadfast: helping people overcome barriers, solve problems, and build better futures for themselves and their families through community advocacy.

Nubia Batista Willman found a home in Pilsen and Little Village because she recognized these neighborhoods embodied the same values that have shaped her own life: resilience, community, cultural pride, and a tradition of standing up for one another.

Today, she is running for Alderman to ensure that every family in the 25th Ward has access to the same opportunities that this neighborhood afforded her: the chance to build a safe and stable life.

Having experienced many of the struggles our neighbors face, she understands their challenges intimately. She is committed to immigrant support and knows how to navigate government, bring people together, and deliver results. Ready to lead on day one, she aims to uplift her community.
